Compress Image to 20KB
Compress a JPG, PNG or WebP image to 20KB or less — exact target size, right in your browser.
Your image is compressed in your browser. It is never uploaded to a server.
How to Compress an Image to 20KB
- Click "Choose an image" and select a JPG, PNG, or WebP file from your device.
- The target size is already set to 20 KB — leave it, or type a different limit.
- The tool finds the highest quality that still fits under 20 KB, reducing dimensions only if quality alone is not enough.
- Check the before/after sizes shown, then click "Download compressed image".
When Do You Need an Image Under 20KB?
Twenty kilobytes is about the size of an avatar, not a full photograph — and that is exactly what it is asked for. The strictest portals cap uploads at 20KB, usually for signature images and small ID thumbnails where the picture is displayed tiny anyway. Reaching 20KB takes heavy compression, so starting from small dimensions matters more here than at any other size.
- Signature images for the strictest application forms
- Small ID thumbnails and avatar uploads
- Portals that cap image uploads at 20KB
- Embedding tiny images where every kilobyte counts
How This Tool Hits an Exact Size
Most compressors hand you a quality slider and make you guess, download, check the size, and try again. This tool works backwards from the target instead: it tests quality levels from high to low and keeps the highest one whose file still fits under 20 KB. Only when even the lowest quality is too big does it step the dimensions down and try again. And if a target genuinely cannot be reached for a particular image, the tool says so and shows you the smallest size it could achieve — it never silently hands you a file that is still over the limit.
How do I compress an image to 20 KB?
Upload your image, choose 20 KB as the target size (it is already filled in on this page), and download the compressed file. The tool tests quality levels automatically and keeps the highest quality that still fits under 20 KB.
Will the quality drop?
Some quality loss is normal at small sizes. We keep the image as clear as possible while hitting the target: quality is reduced first, and dimensions are only reduced when quality alone cannot reach 20 KB.
Which formats are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP. JPEG usually reaches small targets most easily for photos; PNG is lossless, so very small targets may require smaller dimensions.
What if my image is still too big?
Reduce its dimensions first with our image resizer, then compress again. Fewer pixels means a much smaller file at the same quality.
Is it safe to compress my photos here?
Yes. Compression happens entirely in your browser, so your image is never uploaded to a server, stored, or seen by anyone else. Closing the tab erases everything.
Why does a 20KB image look softer?
At this size heavy compression is needed, so resizing first gives better results. Start from the smallest dimensions the form accepts, then compress — the result stays noticeably sharper than squeezing a full-size photo down.
