Compress Image to 200KB
Compress a JPG, PNG or WebP image to 200KB or less — exact target size, right in your browser.
Your image is compressed in your browser. It is never uploaded to a server.
How to Compress an Image to 200KB
- Click "Choose an image" and select a JPG, PNG, or WebP file from your device.
- The target size is already set to 200 KB — leave it, or type a different limit.
- The tool finds the highest quality that still fits under 200 KB, reducing dimensions only if quality alone is not enough.
- Check the before/after sizes shown, then click "Download compressed image".
When Do You Need an Image Under 200KB?
Two hundred kilobytes is the single most common upload ceiling on the web. Portals set it because a phone photo is typically 3–8 MB — far too heavy for a form to accept, store, and process thousands of times a day. If a website has ever rejected your photo for being too large, 200KB is very likely the number it wanted.
- Profile photos for job applications and professional accounts
- Document and photo uploads on government and university portals
- Email attachments that must stay lean enough to send reliably
- Website and blog images that need to load fast
How This Tool Hits an Exact Size
Most compressors hand you a quality slider and make you guess, download, check the size, and try again. This tool works backwards from the target instead: it tests quality levels from high to low and keeps the highest one whose file still fits under 200 KB. Only when even the lowest quality is too big does it step the dimensions down and try again. And if a target genuinely cannot be reached for a particular image, the tool says so and shows you the smallest size it could achieve — it never silently hands you a file that is still over the limit.
How do I compress an image to 200 KB?
Upload your image, choose 200 KB as the target size (it is already filled in on this page), and download the compressed file. The tool tests quality levels automatically and keeps the highest quality that still fits under 200 KB.
Will the quality drop?
Some quality loss is normal at small sizes. We keep the image as clear as possible while hitting the target: quality is reduced first, and dimensions are only reduced when quality alone cannot reach 200 KB.
Which formats are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP. JPEG usually reaches small targets most easily for photos; PNG is lossless, so very small targets may require smaller dimensions.
What if my image is still too big?
Reduce its dimensions first with our image resizer, then compress again. Fewer pixels means a much smaller file at the same quality.
Is it safe to compress my photos here?
Yes. Compression happens entirely in your browser, so your image is never uploaded to a server, stored, or seen by anyone else. Closing the tab erases everything.
Is 200KB enough for a clear photo?
Yes, for most profile photos and standard document uploads. A typical phone photo keeps plenty of visible detail at 200KB — it only starts to soften if the image is printed large.
