The hard part is knowing where Easter is. Unlike Christmas (a fixed date) or Thanksgiving (a fixed weekday), Easter is fixed to the moon: by a rule settled in the year 325, it is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21. The Church computes that moon from tables rather than the sky — the calculation is called the Computus — and it puts Easter anywhere from March 22 to April 25. Western and Eastern (Orthodox) Easter often differ, because the Orthodox calculation uses the older Julian calendar — in 2027 Orthodox Easter falls on May 2, more than a month after the Western date this page counts to.
