What Is a Love Calculator?
A love calculator is a classic internet toy: type in two names, receive a compatibility percentage. Versions of it have circulated since the earliest web pages and school notebooks (older readers will remember the pen-and-paper "FLAMES" game and counting the letters of TRUE LOVE). This one follows the same spirit: it turns the two names into a score using a fixed letter-mixing formula. The formula is deterministic, which is the important part β the same pair of names always produces the same percentage, in any order, today or next year. That consistency is what makes it fun to compare results with friends.
How the Score Is Calculated
The calculator tidies both names (lowercase, no spaces), sorts them so order never matters, and runs them through a letter-hash β a scrambling formula that produces a number from the exact combination of letters. That number becomes your percentage between 0% and 100%. There is no database, no randomness and no peeking at the names' meanings: change one letter and the score changes, keep the names identical and the score is frozen forever. Think of it as a very committed fortune cookie.
Reading Your Result
- 90β100%: Written in the stars (according to a web page). Screenshot it immediately.
- 75β89%: Serious sparks β the names clearly get along.
- 50β74%: A solid match with room to surprise each other.
- 25β49%: Opposites attract, eventually, with effort and snacks.
- 0β24%: The calculator regrets to inform you. Real life, thankfully, disagrees with calculators all the time.
Fun Ways to Use It
Test celebrity couples and fictional pairings, settle friendly arguments about whose names "go together", use it as a party ice-breaker, or check the whole group's scores against one very patient friend. And if your real relationship scores 12%? Congratulations β you have beaten the calculator, which couples do daily. Real compatibility is built out of kindness, humour and showing up β none of which fit in a percentage.
Is the love calculator accurate?
No β and it never claims to be. It is an entertainment toy based on the letters in two names; it has no knowledge of the actual people, their personalities or their relationship. Real compatibility researchers look at communication, values and behaviour over time. Treat a high score as a compliment and a low score as a joke, never as a verdict on a real relationship.
Why do the same names always give the same result?
Because the score is computed from the letters themselves with a fixed formula β there is no dice roll. "Alex + Sam" will return the same percentage on every visit, in either order (the names are sorted before scoring so both directions match). It only changes if you change the spelling: "Alexandra" and "Alex" are different letter combinations, so they score differently.
Are my names sent to a server or saved?
No. The entire calculation runs in your browser with JavaScript β nothing is transmitted, stored or logged. You can type real names, nicknames or made-up ones with equal safety; whatever you enter disappears when you close the tab.
What is the best possible score β and can I improve it?
The top score is 100%, and some name pairs genuinely land there. You cannot improve a score honestly (it is fixed by the spelling), but couples have been known to adopt nicknames that score better β which is either cheating or romance, depending on who tells the story. Trying your full names, first names only, and nicknames are three legitimately different entries, so feel free to test them all.
